A Journey of Myth, Music, and Majesty
Experience a concert that spans vast emotional and physical landscapes. The performance begins at 7:30 PM on Saturday and 3:00 PM on Sunday. Under the direction of Music Director Lee Mills, the Greenville Symphony presents a program that celebrates cultural legends and the awe-inspiring beauty of the American Southwest.
Romantic Masterpieces and Indigenous Stories
The program opens with Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, featuring guest pianist Jonathan Mamora, winner of the Hilton Head International Piano Competition. This work is a cornerstone of the Romantic repertoire, famous for its soaring melodies—one of which famously inspired the power ballad “All By Myself.”
The journey continues with Spider Brings Fire by Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate, a dramatic retelling of a Chickasaw legend. The concert concludes with Ferde Grofé’s Grand Canyon Suite, a cinematic orchestral portrait of the canyon’s sunlit vistas and roaring storms. To enhance the experience, both the Grofé and Tate pieces will be accompanied by stunning digital visuals projected above the orchestra.
Pre-Concert Conversation
Ticketholders are invited to a free pre-concert talk starting one hour before each performance inside the Peace Concert Hall. Join Lee Mills and special guests for an in-depth exploration of the musical themes and history behind the program.
